Two loads of rip rap and about 4o tons of crusher run... Thank you Vulcan Materials and Mr. Bagwell! Incredible kid power! Surveying the progress! We "retired" the shovels in a special ceremony, stomped, and spiral danced on the shell before adding the stones for the labyrinth on top. A gallery of student work and finger labyrinths was set up in the hallway for other classes to enjoy. The labyrinth was finished on Friday, with fine weather, fun, and a wonderful sense of accomplishment!
Turtle Dreams Labyrinth was envisioned about 5 years ago. Linda Brashier, Upper Elementary Montessori teacher at Gray Court - Owings Elementary fundraised and gathered support and donations. Meanwhile, I explored many different designs and patterns, and together (with much help!) we created this wonderful labyrinth: Some of the concepts Turtle symbolizes are Shelter, Abundance, Wisdom, Longevity, Creative Energy, and Mother Earth. I call the labyrinth Turtle Dreams Labyrinth, for I envision. for the children here and for all those who walk it, safe shelter and a shelter for their dreams. The labyrinth also, as symbol for our Earth, reminds us to take care of the planet we call home. |
